A Showcase Project

Preparing bids for complex government projects- waste water treatment at fish landing centres located in different locations along the coastline of the state of Tamil Nadu.

The Government of Tamil Nadu received grants from the World Bank to develop projects for improving the livelihood of fishing community in the state. Such communities make their living operating small hand-powered fishing boats and diesel powered deep-sea trawlers. They bring their catch to the designated harbours and auction them off to the different vendors.

A main component of these projects was to develop modern harbours at important locations and create facilities for fishing auctioning and handling in such harbors. These were to be developed into modern centres of commerce in this sector.

A main objective of these projects was ensure the sustainability of the marine environment around the harbours. VeriTerre was tasked with undertaking a detailed EIA and subsequently develop the bid document for the Department of Fisheries, Government of Tamil Nadu.

VeriTerre successfully completed these studies on times that enabled the government to identify qualified project developers.
