A Showcase Project

Sustainable Master Planning for a major medical college and hospital located on a hilly & difficult terrain.

A 640 acre land parcel was allocated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to a Christian Medical College & Hospital in Chittor district of Andhra Pradesh. This land parcel, as it is located in the edge of the Eastern Ghats is a highly and difficult terrain, with a wide range of native flora and fauna.

The main objective of this preparatory Sustainable Master Planning work was three-fold: 1) study the terrain in detail using GIS tools, 2) understand in detail, the construction feasibility in this difficult terrain while considering the vast flora and fauna that inhabit this land parcel, and 3) undertake detail water draining modelling of the entire land parcel to better understand ways to capture and retain as much of the natural drainage as possible, as Chittor is a known to be ground water stressed area.

Terrain & Slope Analysis

Detailed study was undertaken using satellite imagery and a GIS tool to understand the lay of the land.

Land pattern was the analyzed in details and various features mapped. The land features were corroborated during the subsequent field visit.

Water Drainage Mapping

As the project site is located in a severely water stressed region of the state of Andhra Pradesh, we undertook detailed water mapping studies using a GIS tool.

The findings were useful in understanding the potential ground water recharge points that the stakeholders should safe guard and not destroy.

Construction Feasibility Analysis

As the project site is located in a very hilly terrain, a detailed slope analysis was conducted to understand the feasibility of constructing buildings to house the hospital, medical college and all other support infrastructure.

This study revealed that only about 114/640 acres of land was with any major slope or was part of flat piece of land suitable for easy construction.
